Mark Holter - Saxophones, Clarinet, Flute, Piano, Vocals
Mark Holter makes a living as a professional musician and music
educator specializing in Jazz. He works full time for Project GRAD
Houston, a non-profit group that provides Fine Arts Education to
Mark is also the director of Jazz Ensembles at Houston Community
College System’s Central Campus where his group, Texas Jazz
Central, comprised of community individuals from every profession,
stays very busy playing at swing dances and clubs in Houston. Mark
teaches Jazz Improvisation, Jazz Saxophone, History of Jazz,
Composition and Arranging, Private Lessons, and two jazz ensembles
Austin Biel - Piano, Bass, Acoustic Guitar
Austin is a worship leader and jazz musician who
plays locally most often with the Mark Dini Group,
and less often with his own band, Austin Biel Group.
He plays a variety of instruments, but is "gig-capable"
on keyboards/piano, bass, and acoustic guitar. Active
as a producer/arranger, Austin has mostly been
affiliated with Sunrise Sound for the last several years.
He travels regularly playing for Benny Hinn Ministries and has 4 albums out. Married to wife,

Bill Murry - Acoustic Bass & Electric Bass
Bill Murry is one of the most sought-after bassists in the Southwest
and definitely in the Houston music scene. An Alumni of the
University of North Texas, Bill has played with jazz luminaries such
as Pharoah Sanders, Hank Crawford, Arnett Cobb, Milt Larkin, Bill
Watrous, Kai Winding, Frank Rehak, Clark Terry, Jimmy Rowles,
Bobby Brookmeyer, Mel Lewis and many other celebrated jazz artists.
Bill is also a regular on many Houston Big Bands including Ed Gerlach
and Ronnie Renfrow. He has recorded several CD's with Tony
Campise and Joe LoCascio. Bill Murry is also co-leader of the
Renegades Orchestra, a very popular Houston variety band.
Although jazz is his personal favorite, Bill makes a living as one of Houston's top Entertainment
Robert Knetsch – Bass and Bass Guitar
Robert Knetsch has performed and recorded with numerous musical
artists and ensembles representing a wide range of musical styles
including jazz, classical, country, folk, rock and world music. In
addition to bass/bass guitar he also plays drums/percussion, clarinet
and guitar. Robert and his dog Pearl live in Houston, Texas.
Tom Cummings - Vibraphone / Drums
Tom Cummings is undoubtedly one of the finest musicians in the
Northern Hemisphere. True Artistry is only the beginning of his
virtuosity. He has performed at the Berlin Jazz Festival, the
Montreaux Jazz Festival, and is invited each year to play at the
North Sea Jazz Festival where his busy schedule has afforded him
two appearances. Cummings has also performed in Vienna,
Innsbruck, Salsburg, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Munich and the
Hague. He received a Bachelor of Music degree from the University
of Houston, and also spent five years at the University of Missouri
Tom Cummings is an expert in percussion and has played many shows including West Side
Story, Evita, Sound of Music, Oklahoma and Oliver, to name a few. He has also performed with
celebrities such as Natalie Cole, Ray Charles, Dionne Warwick, Henri Mancini, Freddie Hubbard,
Bill Watrous, Kirk Whalum, Carl Fontana, Jimmy Ford, Arnett Cobb, and the Glenn Miller
Orchestra. Tom's teaching experience is vast. He is in faculty at Houston Community College's
Westchester Campus and formerly taught at Sam Houston State University and San Jacinto
College as well as the University of Houston. An active adjudicator and clinician, Tom
Cummings makes his home in Katy, Texas.
Chris Brown - Drums
A native Houstonian, Chris has been active playing trap set and
percussion in various musical ensembles for many years. His past
experience has found him playing on the same bill with such
notables as the late and great Doug Sahm, comedian Robert Klein
and the group Pure Prairie League. His style of playing covers all
spectrums of music and credits his diversity while studying
under the direction of Charles Weems and the late Joe Raynor.
He currently splits his playing time with other groups such as
Griffiti, Moondance, Project Blue, and the Bobby Markoff Trio.
Chris is married and the father of one son.
Nelson Mills III - Trumpet, Vocals
Nelson Mills III is a Houston, Texas native that began his
professional career on trumpet at the age of thirteen when he
debuted with the Burton Jazz Quartet.
After a notable stay at Texas Southern University, Nelson performed
with a number of commercial bands, most notably the T.S.U.
Tornados from 1967-1971. They gained national attention for
backing up Archie Bell and the Drells on the hit record "Tighten Up".
Two of their own hits, "Gettin' the Corners" and "The Goose" were
distributed on Atlantic Records.
Nelson Mills III also played many shows for other celebrities
such as the Temptations, the Four Tops and the Sparrows. He has toured and recorded with
Joe "Guitar" Hughes. A highly gifted composer, songwriter and arranger, Nelson's charts are
performed regularly. Nelson has also performed with notable jazz artists such as Arnett Cobb,
Conrad Johnson, Milt Larkin. and the New Breed Jazz Band in Kansas City.
Nelson performs regularly with Ronnie Renfrow's Big Band and the Renegades Orchestra
where he is featured not only as a trumpeter but a vocalist as well.
Aside from his musical career, Nelson makes a living as a steel consultant.
Casey Keirnan - Piano
His Group, The Bopmeisters have three CD's out and Texas Jazz Central Big Band has just
released their 2nd CD.
Mark received a Bachelor of Music Education from West Virginia University, a Master of Music
degree in Performance from the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music and presently is
trying to make the time to study for comprhensive exams for a Doctor of Musical Arts in
Mark has been featured as a soloist with the Texas All-State Jr. College Jazz Ensemble and is a
two-time clinician with Texas Regions IX and V respectively. He has also appeared as adjudicator
at many Jazz Festivals.
Mark has toured extensively and played shows for many performers such as Tony Bennett, Kay
Starr, Coasters, Temptations, Four Tops, Platters, Natalie Cole, Michael Bolton, Spinners, and
many others! He has also had the opportunity to play music with such luminaries as Charlie
Haden, Joe Henderson, Conrad Herwig, Terence Blanchard, Adam Nussbaum, Willie Thomas,
Marvin Stam, Red Holloway and many other notables. Mark has written compositions,
arrangements, and transcriptions, which have been played by many big bands, small groups, and
all styles of bands. His arrangements and orchestrations for contemporary praise & worship are
Mark resides in The Woodlands with his wife Gretchen and one son Rodney. He serves as
Instrumental Director for StoneBridge Church/ Woodlands Parkway Baptist Church.
